Ceramics Workshop Alert!! Teacher Tess will be running two great ceramics workshops at the beginning of June, please read descriptions below (please note the workshops are each 3 days long, dates and times are listed in the class descriptions when you click on them):
Intuitive Coil-Building Workshop:
In this workshop, students will learn how to create an organic shaped coil built vessel. We will spend two days building out the vessel, understanding how to shape our pieces not based on sketches but flowing loosely from our minds through our hands. We will cover the basics and intricacies of coil building different shapes to match our desired outcomes. Students will come back for a final day of glazing where we will cover all the possible ways to finish a piece. The goal of this workshop is to let go of expectation and let yourself be carried by the movement of the clay, building something beautiful and organic in the end.
This is a three day workshop: June 1st, 2nd & 14th (the first 2 days are construction, and the third day is glaze day.
Historically Inspired Vessel Workshop:
In this workshop we will examine images of historical vessels through time and, using them as a starting point for inspiration, create our own coil built vessel. Students will learn technical sculptural skills to create mid scale vessels during a two day build. We will incorporate ideas and inspiration drawn from historical ceramics to alter shape and add ornamentation. The last day will be for the final glazing/ painting process.
In preparation for this class, we will send out a list of key words to look up for references as well as some scans of ceramic books. Students are encouraged to come to class with ideas and image inspirations but may take workshop time to do so.
**This is a three day workshop: June 3rd, 4th & 14th (the first 2 days are construction, and the third day is glaze day.
